SUBJECT: C11/C13 Air Compressor Piston Seizure
PROBLEM:
Single cylinder air compressors on C11 and C13 engines have experienced a high early hour failure rate. This failure is due to a lack of cooling to the air compressor piston.
SOLUTION:
An oil spray jet is now incorporated into the supply oil to cool the underside of the piston. New parts will include a new air compressor inspection cover with integral spray jet, oil supply tube, and oil supply hose. This enhancement has been applied to all replacement air compressors on C11 and C13 engines. Air compressors shipped as parts replacement will include a new oil supply hose that will need to be installed.
- Install 90-degree (pipe) elbow (A) to the new inspection cover provided with the compressor. Install one to two threads of the elbow only, then apply White Loctite Sealant to pipe threads. This will insure no loctite gets inside the air compressor housing.
- Tighten the elbow (A) in the new cover and orient to specification (10° ± 5° Outboard to rear). See Figure 1, Bottom View.
- Attach new oil supply hose (D) to cover elbow (A), and then attach to the Block Oil Port.
