SUBJECT: RADIATOR EXPANSION TANK OVERFLOWS

PROBLEM:

Engine coolant is overflowing from the expansion tank. There are two ports located on the side of the water pump, a high-pressure port and a low-pressure port. The 5P-1251 Hose (bulk) for the shunt line is connected to the high-pressure port instead of the low-pressure port. The shunt line hose must be relocated to the low-pressure port. There are also reports that OEM?s have plumbed shunt line hoses into the high-pressure port.

SOLUTION:

Remove the plug from the low-pressure port. Relocate the shunt line hose connection to the low-pressure port on the water pump, see picture below. Install the plug into the high-pressure port. This change is effective with 6BR02231-Up production and with change level 04 for the 156-9801 Expansion Tank Group.
