Problem:
The performance of the upper joint of the 135-5283 and 135-5284 Steering Shafts may cause an increase in the effort required to steer the machine.
Solution:
With the truck parked on a hard surface, check the amount of torque required to turn the steering wheel on machines that have excessive turning effort and replace the steering shaft if necessary.
Prior to checking turning effort, verify that all steering systems are operating correctly. To check the turning effort, remove the button assembly from the steering wheel. Using a 1/4 inch drive torque wrench, measure the amount of torque required to turn the steering wheel 360 degrees. If the required torque is 7.9 N·m (70 in lb) or greater, replace the 135-5283 Steering Shaft or the 135-5284 Steering Shaft.
