Generator Lead Connections Can Rub Against The Terminal Box Or Each Other Caterpillar

Generator Lead Connections Can Rub Against The Terminal Box Or Each Other

Usage:

ENGINESALL SR4 AND SR4B GENERATOR SETS

Problem:

When the generator cables are connected to the customer's cables, they might rub together. At the connection point a bulky mass of cables is commonly found. The cables or the bolted connection can rub against each other or against the sheet metal enclosure. The insulation can be abraided, thus causing a short.

Solution:

When making the connections to the generator leads, use extra care to be sure that these cables will not rub against each other or the sheet metal enclosure. See the above illustration to perform the following procedure. Tape the bolted connections with two layers of 5N-4685 Electrical Tape (Varnished Cambric). Tape over the first two layers with two additional layers of 5N-4686 Electrical Tape (Vinyl Plastic). Each layer of tape must be one half overlapping to ensure a double thickness of tape. Secure 7H-8213 Mats or rubber sheeting around the connections and tie off with cable ties. Use additional cable ties to secure the wire bundle so that it does not contact the enclosure. Before installing the cover, ensure that none of these cables will touch the cover or be positioned so that they may fall into the cover.
