Reference: TECHNICAL INFORMATION BULLETIN; NOVEMBER 12, 1997; HYDRAULIC OIL MAY TRANSFER TO THE TRANSMISSION

Problem:

When oil transfers to the transmission, common practice has been to simply drain the extra oil from the transmission. There have been concerns that the oil from the hydraulic system may destroy the TO4 properties of the transmission oil and cause subsequent damage. Damage can be the result of lower friction coefficients allowing excessive clutch slippage and premature clutch failures.

Solution:

After three gallons of "extra" oil has been drained from the transmission, the transmission oil should be drained. Refill the transmission with the proper oil as described in the Operation and Maintenance Manual.
