Introduction

This special instruction contains the information that is required to service the air cleaner on the Articulated Trucks that are listed.

Do not perform any procedure that is outlined in this publication until you understand the information that is contained in this document. Do not order any parts until you understand the information that is contained in this document.

General Servicing

(1) Body assembly

The air cleaner should be inspected constantly for leaks. A damaged air cleaner can seriously affect the performance and life of the engine. The following steps of service are easily made while the engine is being serviced in the field.

  1. Inspect all connections and make sure that all connections are secure. Check the outlet pipe for the air cleaner in order to make sure that the pipe is not damaged.

  1. If the air cleaner (1) has been dented or damaged, check all connections immediately.

  1. Check the air cleaner (1) for leaks. If leakage is found, adjust and tighten all connections. After you adjust the components and the adjustment does not solve the problem then replace the necessary parts.

(4) Oil collector cup

Service the inner cup (3) and outer oil collector cup (4) daily. Service the cups when 12.7 mm (0.5 inch) of dirt has collected in the bottom of either cup.

Note: Severe operating conditions may require several inspections daily. Excessive engine wear is possible if the machine is operated with more than 12.7 mm (0.5 inch) of residue.

    (3) Inner cup

    (4) Oil collector cup

  1. Reassemble the inner cup (3) into the outer cup (4). Refill both cups to the indicated oil level.

Note: DO NOT OVERFILL THE CUPS. Overfilling means a loss of capacity. Underfilling means a lack of efficiency.

When you service the air cleaner inspect the lower portion of the body assembly (1). You should remove the body assembly (1) if there is any sign of buildup or plugging. Proceed to clean the body assembly (1). You should clean the body assembly (1) at least yearly. Remove the body assembly (1) and perform the following steps:

  1. Remove the oil collector cup (4) and removable element assembly (2) .

  1. Check and clean the center tube.

  1. Pump solvent through the air outlet with sufficient force and volume in order to produce a hard even stream out of the bottom of the body assembly (1). Then back flush the body assembly (1) until all the foreign material is removed.

Note: Always cover the intake for the engine while the air cleaner is being serviced.
Be sure to remove all gaskets before cleaning.
