PM3512 (S/N: BNR1-UP)
PM3516 (S/N: BPD1-UP)

Description of Change: Some 3500B engines that are using Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier I or International Maritime Organization (IMO) certified software in high load factor applications can develop high levels of soot. The engines are used in the following applications:

  • Generator sets

  • Power modules

  • Marine auxiliary

The engines that are certified for EPA Tier I and for IMO are identified by a tag that is attached to the engine. Refer to Illustration 1.

A new fuel injector is now used on the above engines that are operating at 1800 RPM at 60 Hertz. The new injector features a new spray angle. The new spray angle will keep more of the fuel spray in the combustion bowl of the piston. The new spray angle is also designed to minimize the amount of spray that hits the liner wall.

The new injector is compatible with earlier applications. The levels of emissions of carbon monoxide (CO) for the new injector vary from the previous injector. This may prevent the new injector from being used on engines that are operating under local permits.

Adaptable To: 1800 RPM, 60 Hertz engines that are EPA Tier I Certified or IMO Certified, that are experiencing an oil soot problem, and that are operating at a site not affected by local CO emissions permits, may be able to change to the new 230-9457 Fuel Injector Gp. The 230-9457 Fuel Injector Gp will reduce the amount of soot in the engine oil without affecting EPA or IMO emissions compliance.

The 100-8774 Fuel Injection Pump Gp is not cancelled. The 100-8774 Fuel Injection Pump Gp is still available for engines that cannot use the 230-9457 Fuel Injector Gp.
