Rocker Shaft and Pushrod - Remove

Usage:

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the valve mechanism cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Valve Mechanism Cover - Remove and Install".


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Put identification marks on each rocker arm in order to identify the proper location in the engine for installation.

  1. Remove bolt (1) and clip (2). Loosen nut (4) .

  1. Remove bolts (5). Remove jumper tube (3) .

  1. Loosen all rocker arm adjustment screws (6) in order to release the tension on the rocker shaft.

  1. Remove bolts (7), support bracket (8), and rocker shaft (9) .

  1. Repeat Step 1 through Step 5 in order to remove the other rocker shafts.

  1. Put identification marks on each pushrod in order to identify the proper location in the engine for installation.

  1. Remove the pushrods from the engine.
