Introduction

This is a Special Instruction that provides the necessary information in order to install the 174-1508 Electric Motor in the following components: the 7G-3477 Air Conditioner Gp , the 7G-3481 Cab Pressurizer Gp , the 9P-5089 Cab Pressurizer Gp and the 3T-2329 Cab Heater Gp . The 174-1508 Electric Motor is a replacement for the 9X-4218 Motor As in the listed models.

Do not perform any of the procedures until you have completely read the information in this publication.

Reference: Refer to the Service Manual and refer to the Parts Book for a specific machine.

  1. Disconnect the wiring harness from the various connections.

  1. Remove the entire blower assembly from the case assembly. Removal of the blower assembly includes removal of both the blower motor and of the blower housings and wheels.

  1. Separate the 9X-4218 Motor As from the blower assembly.

  1. Remove the two 8P-1291 Motor Mounting Plates (1A) from the motor. The plates are identified in Illustration 2.

  1. Install the two 8P-1291 Motor Mounting Plates (1A) onto the blower housings with the existing bolts and washers.

    Note: The purpose of the two 8P-1291 Motor Mounting Plates (1A) is for control of the air flow. In the past, these plates (brackets) were installed to the replacement motor. The design of the new 174-1508 Electric Motor does not permit the installation of the plates to the motor.

  1. Drill two 10.3 mm (0.41 inch) holes (A) and drill two 7.5 mm (0.30 inch) holes (B) in the top right hand corner of the case assembly. The location dimensions are shown in Illustration 3.

  1. Install 174-1508 Electric Motor (1B) onto the 191-7726 Bracket (2). Use the following parts in order to mount the motor onto the 191-7726 Bracket (2) : two 8C-4586 Clamps (3), one 5P-5908 Seal (6), one 6V-1322 Bolt (7), two 8T-4205 Hard Washers (8) and one 129-3178 Locknut (9) .

  1. The blower housings are bolted to the large slotted holes that are in the flat area at the bottom of the 191-7726 Bracket (2). The flat area at the bottom of the bracket is the bracket's widest part.

    Note: Step 9 and step 10 can be omitted if the resistor is already installed.

  1. Fasten the 9X-4383 Resistor (12) to the 7T-4568 Bracket (13) by using the following parts: the 6V-3320 Screw (14), two 6V-1668 Washers (15), two 6T-6708 Washers (16) and the 7H-8909 Locknut (17). This is shown in Illustration 5.

  1. Use the 5M-3062 Bolts (18) and the 8T-4896 Hard Washers (19) in order to fasten the resistor assembly into the holes (A) of the case assembly for the unit. The holes are identified in Illustration 3. Use Illustration 6 in order to determine the relative locations for the resistor assembly and the blower assembly.

  1. Assemble the new motor assembly, the blower housings and the wheels into the case for the air conditioner. Use four 5P-4115 Hard Washers (23) and four 6V-8185 Nuts (24) in order to assemble the parts to the small studs. Tighten the nuts to a torque of 19.19 ± 4.06 N·m (169.85 ± 35.93 lb in). Use four 5P-1075 Hard Washers (25) and four 6V-8801 Nuts (26) in order to assemble the parts to the large studs. Tighten the nuts to a torque of 19.19 ± 4.06 N·m (169.85 ± 35.93 lb in).

  1. Connect 174-3070 Harness (11) into the wiring connector for the motor. Tie the connection for harness (11) to the 8C-4586 Clamps (3) with one 3S-2093 Cable Strap (10) .

  1. Connect the 9X-4410 Harness (20) to the following items: the existing harness, the harness for the motor assembly (C) and the connector wires for the resistor assembly (D). This is shown in Illustration 6.

  1. Use the following parts to secure the harness to the holes (B) in the case assembly: two 2V-3216 Clips , two 8T-9364 Bolts , two 5P-4115 Hard Washers and two 6V-8185 Nuts (21) .

  1. Assemble the remaining parts of the pressurizer or the heater group.

  1. Disconnect the wiring harness from the various connections.

  1. Remove the entire blower assembly. Removal of the blower assembly includes the following items: blower motor, attached blower housings and the wheels from the air conditioner case.

  1. Remove the 9X-4218 Motor As (1B) from the blower housings.

  1. Remove the two 8P-1291 Motor Mounting Plates (1A) from the motor.

  1. Install the two 8P-1291 Motor Mounting Plates (1A) onto the blower housings.

    Note: The purpose of the two 8P-1291 Motor Mounting Plates (1A) is for control of the air flow. In the past, these plates (brackets) were installed to the replacement motor. The design of the new 174-1508 Electric Motor does not permit the installation of the plates to the motor.

  1. Drill two 6.35 mm (0.25 inch) holes into the housing of the blower motor. The location dimensions are shown in Illustration 9.

  1. Drill two 10.3 mm (0.41 inch) holes into the top right hand corner of the case assembly for the air conditioner. The location dimensions are shown in Illustration 10.

  1. Install 174-1508 Electric Motor (1B) onto the 191-7726 Bracket (14). Use the following parts in order to mount the motor onto the 191-7726 Bracket (14) : two 8C-4586 Clamps (15), one 5P-5908 Seal (18), one 6V-1322 Bolt (19), two 8T-4205 Hard Washers (20) and one 129-3178 Locknut (21) .

  1. Fasten the 9X-4383 Resistor (12) to the 7T-4568 Bracket (13) by using the following parts: one 6V-3320 Screw (14), two 6V-1668 Washers (15) , two 6T-6708 Washers (16) and one 7H-8909 Locknut (17). This is shown in Illustration 12.

  1. Use the 5M-3062 Bolts (18) and the four 8T-4896 Hard Washers (19) in order to fasten the resistor assembly to the case assembly of the air conditioner. This is shown in Illustration 13.

  1. Assemble the new motor assembly, the blower housings and the wheels into the case for the air conditioner. Use the existing bolts, washers, spacers, and nuts that were removed during the disassembly in order to assemble the parts into the case assembly. Tighten the nuts to a torque of 5.64 ± 1.69 N·m (49.92 ± 14.96 lb in).

  1. Connect 174-3070 Harness (11) into the wiring connector for the motor. Tie the connection for harness (11) to the 8C-4586 Clamps (3) with one 3S-2093 Cable Strap (10). This is shown in Illustration 13.

  1. Use three 3S-2093 Cable Straps (10) in order to attach the 9X-4410 Harness (20) to the blower housings. Position the straps through the holes that are in the flanges. This is shown in Illustration 13.

  1. Secure the 9X-4410 Harness (20) to the following items: the existing harness, the harness of the motor assembly (C) and the harness of the resistor assembly (D). This is shown in Illustration 13.

  1. Complete the assembly of the air conditioner.
