The diagnostic circuit of the shift lever identifies a system voltage that is below 9.0 DCV.
The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
- The system voltage remains low for an extended time after the engine is started.
- There is an open circuit between the battery and the shift lever.
- There is an open circuit between the shift lever and system ground.
- One set of batteries is disconnected with the key in the ON position. Also, the engine must not be running.
Note: Ensure that CID 0168 FMI 01 is active and that the diagnostic code is active.
Test Step 1. CHECK THE BATTERY VOLTAGE.
- Start the engine.
- Run the engine at high idle for several minutes.
- Measure the battery voltage at the battery posts.
Expected Result:
The voltage should be greater than 9.0 DCV.
Results:
- OK - The voltage is greater than 9.0 DCV. The battery voltage is correct. Proceed to test step 2.
- NOT OK - The voltage is less than 9.0 DCV. The charging system is not operating correctly.
Repair: Check the charging system. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Starting And Charging System" in the Service Manual for the machine that is being serviced.
Stop.
Test Step 2. CHECK THE SYSTEM VOLTAGE AT THE ECM.
- Run the engine at high idle.
- Locate the connector for the shift lever.
- Use 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe Group.
- Measure the system voltage between 1 (wire 123-WH) and 2 (wire 205-BK).
Expected Result:
The voltage should be less than 9.0 DCV.
Results:
- OK - Voltage is less than 9.0 DCV. The harness has failed.
Repair: Repair the harness or replace the harness.
Stop.
- NOT OK - Voltage is greater than 9.0 DCV. The system voltage is correct.
Repair: Ensure that CID 0168 FMI 01 is active. Disconnect the harness connector from the shift lever and inspect contacts for corrosion or debris. Reconnect the harness connector to the shift lever. If the diagnostic code is active, replace the shift lever control.
Stop.
