  • Description of Change: The Spring 2002 Software for Product Link Modules (PLM) was released on 05June 2002. The Spring 2002 Software (224-6310 Product Link Software ) for Product Link modules is available in the form of a Flash File through Caterpillar Service Information System (SIS). Refer to Table 1 for a list of upgrades that are available with this new software.

Note: Some older Product Link modules may contain non-flashable firmware (located within the modem section of the module) that does not support all of the updates in the new release. Therefore, only newer Product Link modules (manufactured after 18January 2002 - "02" Engineering change level) will have all of the features of the new software.

    Table 1
Updates Available with the Spring 2002 Software (224-6310 Product Link Software ) for Product Link Modules
    Update     Comments
Allows the use of the dash character (-) in the serial number
Reports Start Time based on local time     Requires ET 2001.
Updates are not available if Spring 2002 software is flashed on top of Ver 15 modem software. (1) Refer to Table 2.
Allows over-the-air Service Meter Unit (SMU) adjustments     Updates are not available if Spring 2002 software is flashed on top of Ver 15 modem software (1).
Configurable Fuel/SMU report settings (2)     Updates are not available if Spring 2002 software is flashed on top of Ver 15 modem software (1).
Modem Serial Number is viewable in ET     Only on PLM's manufactured after November 2001.
    Refer to Table 2.
Position will not report if the position is older than 1 hour.     Updates not available if Spring 2002 software is flashed on top of Ver 15 modem software (1).
Will not report "0 occurrences" of Events/Diagnostics     Known issue on 988 and D11.
No duplicate occurrences of Diagnostics reported     Reports only logged Diagnostics
( 1 ) The Product Link Module, as with other ECM's, contains two pieces of software: Core (modem) and Application (flash file). There are two versions of modem software: Version 15 and Version 16. The modem software version can be viewed under the Registry screen of the PLWeb application. The software version is also reflected in the revision number of the module's part number.
( 2 ) Configurable Fuel/SMU report settings are: SMU daily, Fuel daily, or Alternating Fuel/SMU.

Adaptable To: The 224-6310 Product Link Software is now being used in production. The new 224-6310 Product Link Software is flashable (adaptable) onto all PL151 and PL201 Product Link modules that are in the field. Table 2 shows the version of 224-6310 Product Link Software that can be flashed onto each PLM Part Number.

    Table 2
Matching 224-6310 Product Link Software Version with PLM Part Number (1)
Modem Software Version     PLM 151 Part Number     PLM 201 Part Number
15     209-6416-01 Communication Electronic Control Module (Product Link)     209-6417-01 Communication Electronic Control Module (Product Link)
    or
153-2325 Communication Electronic Control Module (Product Link)
16     209-6416-02 Communication Electronic Control Module (Product Link) (2)     209-6417-02 Communication Electronic Control Module (Product Link) (2)
    or
209-6417-03 Communication Electronic Control Module (Product Link) (2)
( 1 ) The 224-6310 Product Link Software cannot be flashed onto PL-101 modules.
( 2 ) With this PLM, the Modem Serial Number can be viewed in ET.
Use Caterpillar ET's Winflash application to flash the file. Flashing this software will cause all parameters to reset to default. Therefore, the Product Link Module must be registered again. Flashing this software will also clear out all configuration settings in the Product Link Module. Note the PLM settings before flashing the software.
