(1) Torque for the 20 bolts ... 270 ± 40 N·m (200 ± 30 lb ft)
(2) 1J-2860 Bearing Cup and 2D-9454 Bearing Cup
- Preload rolling torque ... 0.9 N·m to 1.8 N·m (8 lb in to 16 lb in)
Minimum overall preload rolling torque ... 3.4 N·m (30 lb in)
Maximum overall preload rolling torque ... 5.6 N·m (50 lb in)
(3) Tighten the nut until the torque wrench reading corresponds with the value in the following table:
Pinion Rolling Torque     | |
    | Actual Torque at the Pinion     |
New Bearings     | 0.9 to 1.8 N·m (8 to 16 lb in)     |
Used Bearings     | 0.45 to 0.9 N·m (4 to 8 lb in)     |
Note: The nut may be reused if the collar is not cracked during removal or during restaking.
(4) Torque for the 10 bolts (front axle) ... 300 ± 40 N·m (220 ± 30 lb ft)
Assembled backlash at the heel of the bevel gear ... 0.30 + 0.12 - 0.10 mm (.01 + .0047 -.0039 inch)
Assembled backlash at the pinion spline tooth ... 0.18 + 0.07 -0.06 mm (.0071 + .003 -.002 inch)

The following dimensions are for a stake nut:
- Dimension (A) ... 10 to 30 degrees
- Dimension (B) ... 7.5 to 8.0 mm (.30 to .32 inch)
- Dimension (C) ... 4.7 mm (.19 inch)
- Dimension (D) ... 2.5 mm (.10 inch)
- Dimension (B) ... 7.5 to 8.0 mm (.30 to .32 inch)
Note: Heat bevel gear to a maximum temperature of 135 °C (275 °F) for a maximum of four hours. Install bevel gear on the differential case. Allow bevel gear to cool to room temperature before you tighten the bolts. Install each bolt to the correct torque specification 270 ± 40 N·m (200 ± 30 lb ft).
