Personal injury or death can result from a fire. Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system. Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters. |

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Raise the hood for the engine compartment.
Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hood Tilting" for a guide to the proper procedure for raising the hood of the machine.
- Close the shutoff valve for the fuel. The valve is located under the fuel tank.
- Remove fuel filter (1).

- Wash the fuel filter in a clean, nonflammable solvent.
- Use 205 kPa (30 psi) of air pressure to dry the fuel filter.
- Clean base (2) for the fuel filter.
- Inspect the seal. Replace the seal if the seal is damaged.
- Install fuel filter (1) on base (2) .
- Open the fuel shutoff valve.
- Unlatch the rod for the hood support. Close the hood for the engine compartment.
