Installation and Reinforcement Procedures for the Upper Link{7120}

Usage:

65E 6GS
Agricultural Tractors:
Challenger 65E (S/N: 6GS1-UP)
Challenger 75E (S/N: 6HS1-UP)
Challenger 85E (S/N: 6JS1-UP)
Challenger 95E (S/N: 6KS1-UP)

Introduction

This Special Instruction provides the instructions that are needed to install the 193-4472 Upper Link . This Special Instruction also provides the procedure that is needed to reinforce the connection point at the quick hitch and the 3W-7235 Support for the new upper link.

A tractor that is used in heavy-duty applications can benefit from the more rugged upper link and reinforced connecting points. This will improve the reliability and durability of the hitch.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

------ WARNING! ------

Accidental machine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the machine.

To avoid accidental machine starting, turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position and remove the key. If the machine is not equipped with a battery disconnect switch, disconnect the battery cables from the battery and tape the battery clamps.

Place a do not operate tag at the battery disconnect switch location to inform personnel that the machine is being worked on.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under presure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

----------------------

Reference: See Disassembly and Assembly, SENR1743, "Machine Systems" for the information that is needed to remove the three-point hitch from the tractor.

Reinforcement and Installation Procedure

  1. After you remove the hitch from the tractor, remove the existing upper link and remove the upper hook. Also, remove any hydraulic lines that would interfere with the following machining and welding processes.

  1. Position plate assembly (9) and plate assembly (8) on quick hitch (16) .

  1. Install the following parts through plate assemblies (8) and (9) :

Note: The following parts will help to hold dimension (D) that is shown in Illustration 12.

    • One pin assembly (2)

    • One spacer (3)

    • One washer (10)

    • One bolt (11)

  1. Tack weld plate assemblies (8) and (9) .
