Refrigerant Receiver-Dryer - Check
Note: The air conditioner should be kept ready for operation year-round. Operate the air conditioner for a few minutes during the week in order to rotate the compressor. This prevents the leakage of refrigerant. The leakage is caused by a dry seal on the compressor.
Note: R-134a refrigerant may cause frost to form on the dryer.
- Look at the receiver-dryer sight glass and note the amount of refrigerant.
Note: Ambient temperature must be between 21 °C (70 °F) and 29 °C (85 °F) in order to use the sight glass accurately with R-134a refrigerant .
- In sight glass (A), no bubbles are present. This indicates that the system has been overcharged with refrigerant.
- In sight glass (B), only a few small bubbles are present. This indicates that there is a satisfactory amount of refrigerant.
- In sight glass (C), many bubbles or large bubbles are present. This indicates that there is a lack of refrigerant.
- In sight glass (D), streaks of oil are present. This indicates that there is no refrigerant.
If the condition in sight glass (A), (C) or (D) is noticed, consult your authorized Caterpillar dealer for recharging.
Note: Operation of the air conditioner without correct amounts of refrigerant will cause failure of the compressor.
- In sight glass (A), no bubbles are present. This indicates that the system has been overcharged with refrigerant.
