Description of Change: An new shaft that accepts longer bolts for the fan drive mounting is used on the 3408E Engines in the above machines. This new shaft is part of the fan drive bracket assembly that supports the fan pulley hub. The new shaft has deeper internal bolt threads in order to accept longer bolts. The longer bolts and increased thread engagement provides greater bolt stretch and increased torque retention which prevents loose bolts and broken bolts.
Adaptable To: The 149-3940 Fan Drive group contains a new 198-6100 Shaft for the 149-3939 Bracket (Assembly). The new 198-6100 Shaft is a direct replacement for the former 149-3925 Shaft. The former shaft has been cancelled. Two longer 7F-0938 Bolts replace the former 5P-7979 Bolts that fasten the fan hub assembly onto the shaft.
The 149-3939 Bracket (Assembly) is serviceable at the group level. This group would only contain the shaft and the dowel pin. The longer bolts would need to be purchased also. The 198-6100 Shaft is installed in the same manner with the 5B-5821 Dowel (Pin). Illustration 1 shows the components that are required in order to convert the 149-3940 Fan Drive group to the new shaft.
