The new suction tube has a brazed screen on the end.

A permanent suction tube has been added to the transmission hydraulic tank.

Note: The part number of the hydraulic tank did not change.

Adaptable To: The new suction tube is effective with the following off-highway truck/tractor: 777D (S/N: AGC741), 777D HAA (S/N: AGY79) and 776D (S/N: AFS81). A suction tube can be added to all earlier machines by using the following procedure.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contamination of the hydraulic system with foreign material will reduce the service life of the hydraulic system components.

To prevent contaminants from entering the hydraulic system, always plug or cap the lines, fittings, or hoses as they are disconnected. Cover any disassembled components and clean them properly before assembly.

Clean the hydraulic system properly after any major component exchange or especially after a component failure, to remove any contamination.

------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.

Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure.

----------------------

  1. Drain the oil from the hydraulic tank. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manuals for the proper procedure.
