Connection Procedure

1. Install Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device into transmission housing (29). Attach Tooling (C) between the suitable lifting device and lifting bracket (30). Position the transmission and the torque converter. The weight of the transmission and the torque converter is approximately 950 kg (2094 lb).

2. Align one of the holes in the drive plate with the access hole in the flywheel housing. Install a guide stud into one of bolt holes in the flywheel. Rotate the flywheel and align the guide stud with the hole in the drive plate and the access hole in the flywheel housing.

   Note: One of the bolt holes in the flywheel is offset. Make sure that the flywheel and the drive plate are correctly aligned.

3. Position the transmission and the torque converter. Install bolts (31) into pump housing (11) .

4. Remove the guide stud.

5. Install bolt (28) through the access hole and tighten the bolt to a torque of 100 ± 20 N·m (74 ± 15 lb ft).

6. Insert Tooling (A) into flywheel housing (24). Use Tooling (A) to rotate the engine and align the next hole.

7. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 until bolts (28) are installed.

8. Position cover (23) on flywheel housing (24) and install bolts (22) .

9. Install plug (27) into flywheel housing (24). Position oil level gauge (26) and install bolts (25) .

10. Install bolts (20) in order to connect tube assembly (21) to retarder valve (21a) .

11. Position tube assembly (5) and the O-ring seal. Install bolts (19) .

12. Position mounting bracket (18) onto the right side of the transmission. Install bolts (17) .

13. Position mounting bracket (16) onto the left side of the transmission. Install bolts (15) .

14. Connect hose assembly (13) to gear pump (14) and tighten retaining nut (12). Position tube assembly (6) onto pump housing (11) and tighten retaining nut (10) .

15. Install clips (9) and (8), and bolt (7). Install bolts (1), clamp (2), and clip (3) in order to secure tubes (5) and (6) to bracket (4) .

End By: Install the engine, the torque converter and the transmission. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine, Torque Converter and Transmission - Install".
