This diagnostic code is recorded when the power train ECM does not recognize the harness code that is received from the Caterpillar Monitoring System on the data link (wires 944-OR and 945-BR).
Note: Ensure that the diagnostic code is active and that the diagnostic code indicator is active.
Test Step 1. Check the Monitoring System.
- Check the monitor for a related diagnostic code. Refer toTroubleshooting, "Using Caterpillar Monitoring System to Determine Diagnostic Codes".
Expected Result:
The monitor should not have a related diagnostic code.
Results:
- YES - The monitor does not have a related diagnostic code.
Repair: Perform the troubleshooting procedure for the diagnostic code (CID 248 FMI 02) for the data link.
STOP
- NO - The monitor has a related diagnostic code.
Repair: Correct the related diagnostic code.
Proceed to test step 2.
Test Step 2. Recheck for the Diagnostic Code.
- Check if the diagnostic code indicator remains active for this diagnostic code.
Expected Result:
The diagnostic code indicator is inactive.
Results:
- YES - The diagnostic code indicator is inactive.
Repair: Clear the diagnostic code. Watch for a recurrence of this diagnostic code.
STOP
- NO - The diagnostic code indicator is active.
Repair: It is unlikely that the power train ECM has failed. Perform this test procedure again. If the cause of the problem is not found, replace the power train ECM. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (Power Train) - Replace".
