MID 106 - CID 1189 - FMI 08

Usage:

432D BLD
Conditions Which Generate This Code:

This diagnostic code is associated with the position sensor for the auxiliary control. The FMI 08 means that the ECM determined that the signal is abnormal.

Schematic for the circuit (auxiliary control)

Test Step 1. CHECK THE DUTY CYCLE OF THE AUXILIARY CONTROL AT THE ECM

  1. Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.

  1. Remove the operator control panel on the right side in order to get to the ECM.

  1. Remove the wire harness from the ECM.

  1. Turn the key start switch to the ON position.

  1. With the auxiliary control in the center position, measure the duty cycle of the auxiliary control from contact 3 to contact 62.

  1. Actuate the auxiliary control to the right and measure the duty cycle of the auxiliary control from contact 3 to contact 62.

  1. Actuate the auxiliary control to the left and measure the duty cycle of the auxiliary control from contact 3 to contact 62.

Expected Result:

The duty cycle should be 50% ± 2% in the center position. When the auxiliary control is actuated, the duty cycle should vary from approximately 10% to 90%. The duty cycle should not be erratic.

Results:

  • OK - The duty cycle is okay. Proceed to Test Step 2.

  • NOT OK - The duty cycle is not correct. Proceed to Test Step 4.

Test Step 2. CHECK THE FREQUENCY OF THE AUXILIARY CONTROL

  1. With the auxiliary control in the center position, measure the frequency of the auxiliary control from contact 3 to contact 62.

Expected Result:

The frequency should be between 400 Hz and 700 Hz.

Results:

  • OK - The frequency is between 400 Hz and 700 Hz.

Repair: The ECM is very unlikely to have failed. Reconnect all connections and visually inspect the wire harness. Verify that the diagnostic code still exists. If the diagnostic code still exists perform the Test Steps again.Replace the ECM, if the cause of the diagnostic code was not found after the second attempt. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".

    Stop.

  • NOT OK - The frequency is less than 400 Hz or the frequency is greater than 700 Hz. Proceed to Test Step 3.

Test Step 3. CHECK THE FREQUENCY OF THE AUXILIARY CONTROL AT THE AUXILIARY CONTROL

  1. Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.

  1. Locate the 12 pin connector from the auxiliary control.

  1. Use a 6V-4147 Extractor in order to remove the wire N997-WH which is leading to the auxiliary control from contact 3 of the 12 pin connector.

  1. Turn the key start switch to the ON position.

  1. With the auxiliary control in the center position, measure the frequency of the auxiliary control from the removed wire N997-WH to wire 203-BK or the machine frame.

Expected Result:

The frequency should be between 400 Hz and 700 Hz.

Results:

  • OK - The frequency is between 400 Hz and 700 Hz.

Repair: The wire harness and/or the connector has failed. Repair the wire harness and/or the connector or replace the wire harness and/or the connector.

    Stop.

  • NOT OK - The frequency is less than 400 Hz or the frequency is greater than 700 Hz.

Repair: The auxiliary control has failed. Replace the control handle.

    Stop.

Test Step 4. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AT THE AUXILIARY CONTROL

  1. Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.

  1. Disconnect the 12 pin connector from the auxiliary control.

  1. Turn the key start switch to the ON position.

  1. Measure the voltage from contact 1 to contact 2.

Expected Result:

The voltage should be approximately 12 VDC.

Results:

  • OK - The voltage is approximately 12 VDC. Proceed to Test Step 5.

  • NOT OK - The voltage is less than 9 VDC.

Repair: Check the fuse. If the fuse is good, the wire harness and/or the connector has failed. Repair the wire harness and/or the connector or replace the wire harness and/or the connector.

    Stop.

Test Step 5. CHECK THE DUTY CYCLE OF THE AUXILIARY CONTROL AT THE AUXILIARY CONTROL

  1. With the auxiliary control in the center position, measure the duty cycle of the auxiliary control from the removed wire N997-WH to wire 203-BK or the machine frame.

  1. Actuate the auxiliary control to the right and measure the duty cycle of the auxiliary control from wire N997-WH to wire 203-BKor the machine frame.

  1. Actuate the auxiliary control to the left and measure the duty cycle of the auxiliary control from wire N997-WH to wire 203-BKor the machine frame.

Expected Result:

The duty cycle should be 50% ± 2% in the center position. When the auxiliary control is actuated, the duty cycle should vary from approximately 10% to 90%. The duty cycle should not be erratic.

Results:

  • OK - The duty cycle is okay.

Repair: The wire harness and/or the connector has failed. Repair the wire harness and/or the connector or replace the wire harness and/or the connector.

    Stop.

  • NOT OK - The duty cycle is not correct.

Repair: The auxiliary control has failed. Replace the control handle.

    Stop.
