Propel electronic control module (1) controls the functions such as the machine speed and the steering. The machine speed is determined by the position of the propel lever, the steering wheel, and the service brake.
ECM (1) determines the function of the interlocks of the machine. If you start the engine with the propel lever in the FORWARD position, the ECM will not allow the machine to move. If you start the engine with the propel lever in the REVERSE position, the ECM will not allow the machine to move. The ECM will not allow the machine to be moved until the propel lever is initially placed in the NEUTRAL position.
The ECM can be calibrated by the operator. The operator can calibrate for various functions. Calibration is necessary when major components are replaced. The calibration tells the computer the minimum values and the maximum values for the function that is controlled by the component.
Operational Modes
Operation Mode 0
Note: Use "MODE/SCROLL" switch (2) to move to different modes.
Operation mode 0 is the default mode at start-up. The LED display may show the errors that are listed below.
P01 - The propel lever is out of the NEUTRAL position while the parking brake is on. Reset the propel lever to the NEUTRAL position.
P02 - A gear change was attempted while the propel lever was not in the NEUTRAL position. Reset the propel lever to the NEUTRAL position.
P03 - This is an illegal maneuver mode. Reset the propel lever to the NEUTRAL position.
Note: No errors are detected if there are no numbers in the display.
Service Mode 1
Use "MODE/SCROLL" switch (2) in order to set the ECM into the service mode. Hold the switch until the LED display shows "1".
This mode is used for servicing the machine. The LED display will show a component identifier (CID) of three digits. The display will show a failure mode identifier (FMI) after the component identifier.
Hold the switch in the INCREMENT position in order to scroll through the errors. A red LED light will be illuminated if there is an active fault.
In order to clear a fault that is recorded but not present, hold "CLEAR/STORE" switch (3). A dash will be displayed when the fault is cleared. See the decal on the access door for the fault codes.
Calibration Mode 2
Use "MODE/SCROLL" switch (2) to change the ECM into the calibration mode. See the decal on the access door for the calibration information. Refer to Service Manual, KENR2949, for detailed information on calibrating the ECM.
