AP-1050B and BG-245C Asphalt Pavers Caterpillar

While you warm up the machine, run the conveyor system. Before you receive the first load of asphalt, check the conveyors and the screed vibrators. The drag conveyors and the auger conveyors must be working properly. The screed vibrators must be working properly.

Use the following procedures in order to check the operation of the conveyor system and the vibratory system.

Conveyor System

1. Apply parking control (3) .

2. Set maximum speed potentiometer (1) to half speed.

3. Set speed range switch (4) to PAVE.

4. Set throttle control (5) to maximum rpm.

5. Push propel control (2) completely forward.

6. Set conveyor auto/manual controls (6) to AUTO.

7. Set auger control switches (8) to AUTO. The augers should be operating at full rpm.

8. If the machine is equipped with the feeder control sensor paddles, rotate the paddles outward. This ensures that the augers will slow at some point in the range. If the machine is equipped with sonic sensors, position the sensors in order to stop the augers at the desired mix height. When you position the sonic sensors, set mix height dials (9) to one-half. To adjust the head of material, use the mix height dial.

Vibratory System

1. Turn vibratory switch (7) on the operator's console to the ON position.

2. Turn vibratory switch (10) in the right screed control box to the ON position. The vibrators should be operating.

3. The speed of the vibrators can be adjusted with adjusting knob (11) on the vibratory manifold.

4. Return propel lever (2) to NEUTRAL.
