Note: Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) is a software program that can be used on an IBM compatible personal computer.
The service tool (ET) is not needed in order to determine diagnostic codes. However, the process of determining diagnostic codes is easier with the Caterpillar ET. The ET can also display information on the diagnostic code history and the parameter status. These features allow the ET to be a useful tool for troubleshooting.
The ET connects to the machine service connector and the ET communicates with the electronic control modules over the data link.
