NOTICE |
---|
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
Before you conduct the testing and adjusting, refer to the following steps:
- Stop the machine. Apply the parking brake.
- Place the propel control lever in NEUTRAL position.
- Install the 6V-7788 Flow Meter in the outlet line of the oil cooler.
- Install the 4C-6500 Digital Thermometer into the hydraulic oil tank. Start the engine and run the engine at high idle until the hydraulic oil temperature reaches 38°C (100 °F).
- When the oil temperature in the oil bypass valve is above 71°C (160 °F) the flow should increase about 15 L/min (4 US gpm) when the machine is moving. The total flow should be a minimum of 38 L/min (10 US gpm) and a maximum of 49 L/min (13 US gpm).
If the flow is out of the specifications the bypass valve or the oil cooler should be repaired or replaced.
- Remove the flow meter and other test tooling. Reconnect the oil lines to the original locations.
