Differential Lock Control

Usage:

D400E II APF
The interaxle differential and all axle differentials can be locked in order to provide additional traction whenever the drive wheels encounter loose surfaces, slippery surfaces, or soft ground.

It is possible to lock the interaxle differential only. Alternatively, the interaxle differential and all three axle differentials can be locked simultaneously. The axle differentials cannot be locked without locking the interaxle differential.

Note: The interaxle differential locks and axle differential locks can be engaged while the machine is moving.

Illustration 2g00623728

The interaxle differential lock and the axle differential locks are engaged with two separate controls.

  • Panel Switch (1)

  • Floor Switch (2)

Engaged - The interaxle differential lock and the axle differential locks are engaged when floor switch (2) is pressed.

Disengaged - Only the interaxle differential lock is engaged when floor switch (2) is pressed.

Operate the machine with the differential locks in the DISENGAGED position on good ground conditions. Panel switch (1) must be in the DISENGAGED position and floor switch (2) must not be pressed.

To provide additional traction, engage the interaxle differential lock when you are operating the machine and the drive wheels encounter loose surfaces or slippery surfaces. Panel switch (1) must be in the DISENGAGED position and floor switch (2) must be pressed. Torque is transmitted to the axle that has traction, even though one axle does not have traction.

Disengage the interaxle differential lock when the ground conditions improve. Disengage the interaxle differential lock by releasing floor switch (2) .

When the interaxle differential lock cannot keep the machine moving in very soft ground, engage the axle differential locks. Panel switch (1) must be in the ENGAGED position and floor switch (2) must be pressed. This overrides the normal operation of the interaxle differential and the axle differentials. Torque is transmitted to the wheel that has traction, even if the other wheels do not have traction.

Whenever ground conditions improve, disengage the axle differential locks. Disengage the axle differential locks by moving panel switch (1) to the DISENGAGED position. The interaxle differential lock will remain engaged while floor switch (2) is pressed. Disengage the interaxle differential lock by releasing floor switch (2) .

Note: The interaxle differential lock and the axle differential locks can be engaged while the machine is moving.
