Parking Brake - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the center drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive Shaft (Center) - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

  1. Attach Tooling (A) (not shown) to the parking brake at bolt (1) .

  1. Remove bolt (2), the washer and the O-ring seal (not shown).

  1. Attach Tooling (B) to Tooling (A) .

  1. Remove eleven bolts (3) and the washers.

  1. Use Tooling (B) and a hoist to remove brake drum (4) from the splined end of drive shaft (5). The weight of the brake drum is 25 kg (55 lb).

  1. Remove the cotter pin and clevis pin (6). Separate brake lever (7) from yoke assembly (8) .

  1. Mark the position of brake lever (7) on camshaft (9) for installation purposes. Loosen bolt (10) and remove brake lever (7) from camshaft (9) .

  1. Remove brake return springs (12), brace (11), brake retainer spring (14), brake adjuster (15) and brake shoes (13) .

  1. Remove four bolts (16) and plate assembly (17) .

  1. Remove the brake camshaft.

  1. Remove two nuts (18), the washers, and brake actuator mounting bracket (19) .

Note: Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any components are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

    Typical Example

  1. Install brake actuator mounting bracket (19), the washers, and two nuts (18) .

  1. Install the brake camshaft.

  1. Install plate assembly (17) and four bolts (16). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 300 ± 40 N·m (220 ± 30 lb ft).

  1. Install brake shoes (13), brake adjuster (15), brake retainer spring (14), brace (11) and brake return springs (12) .

  1. Install brake lever (7) and bolt to camshaft (9) .

  1. Connect brake lever (7) to yoke assembly (8). Install clevis pin (6) and the cotter pin.

  1. Use Tooling (B) and a hoist to carefully install brake drum (4) to the splined end of drive shaft (5). The weight of the brake drum is 25 kg (55 lb).

  1. Install eleven bolts (3) and the washers. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 105 ± 20 N·m (75 ± 15 lb ft).

  1. Remove Tooling (B) from Tooling (A) .

  1. Install the O-ring seal (not shown), bolt (2) and the washer. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 530 ± 70 N·m (390 ± 50 lb ft).

  1. Remove Tooling (A) (not shown) from bolt (1). Tighten bolt (1) to a torque of 105 ± 20 N·m (75 ± 15 lb ft).

End By: Remove the center drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive Shaft (Center) - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.
