Final Drive, Brake and Wheel (Rear) - Install

Note: Before the installation of the rear final drive, brake, and wheel, clean the mating surfaces of the flange.

  1. Use Tool (B) and a suitable hoist to support the weight of the rear final drive, brake, and wheel. The weight of the rear final drive, brake, and wheel is approximately 7180 kg (15,829.2 lb).

  2. Install the rear final drive, brake, and wheel (31) on the machine.

    Note: During the handling of the rear final drive, brake and wheel, protect the rear final drive, brake, and wheel from damage and debris.

  3. Install 41 washers and 41 bolts (30).

    Note: DO NOT reuse torque turned bolts.

    Note: During the installation of bolts (30), apply 4C-5593 Anti-Seize Compound to the face of the washer and to the threads of bolts (30).

    Note: During the installation of bolts (30), tighten the bolts to a torque of 800 ± 50 N·m (590 ± 37 lb ft). Repeat the tightening procedure to ensure that the bolts are tightened to 800 ± 50 N·m (590 ± 37 lb ft). Turn each bolt to an additional 120 ± 5 Degrees.

  4. Install guard (29), three washers, and three bolts (28).

    Note: DO NOT reuse torque turned bolts.

    Note: During the installation of bolts (28), apply 4C-5593 Anti-Seize Compound to the face of the washer and to the threads of bolts (28).

    Note: During the installation of bolts (28), tighten the bolts to a torque of 800 ± 50 N·m (590 ± 37 lb ft). Repeat the tightening procedure to ensure that the bolts are tightened to 800 ± 50 N·m (590 ± 37 lb ft). Turn each bolt to an additional 120 ± 5 Degrees.

  5. Use Tool (A) to connect the harness to the right wheel speed sensor.

  6. Install lock wire (26).

  7. Install guard (21), three spacers (25), three washers, and three bolts (20).

    Note: DO NOT reuse torque turned bolts.

    Note: During the installation of bolts (20), apply 4C-5593 Anti-Seize Compound to the face of the washer and to the threads of bolts (20).

    Note: During the installation of bolts (20), tighten the bolts to a torque of 800 ± 50 N·m (590 ± 37 lb ft). Repeat the tightening procedure to ensure that the bolts are tightened to 800 ± 50 N·m (590 ± 37 lb ft). Turn each bolt to an additional 120 ± 5 Degrees.

  8. Install clip (24), two washers, nut (23), and bolt (22).

  9. Install O-ring seal (16) and elbow (15). Install O-ring seal (19). Connect hose assembly (18).

  10. Repeat Step 9 for remaining hose assembly (14).

  11. Install O-ring seal (9). Install O-ring seal (13), tube assembly (6), three washers, and three bolts (17).

  12. Install O-ring seal (2). Install tube assembly (5), split clamp (12), two washers, and two bolts (11). Tighten hose clamp (10).

  13. Install split clamp (8), four washers, and four bolts (7).

  14. Install three washers and three bolts (1) to connect tube assembly (5).

  15. Install plug (3) and O-ring seal (4).

  16. Refill the oil in the differential housing. Approximately 663 L (175.1 US gal) of oil must be added to the differential housing.

  17. Refill the oil in the service and parking brakes. Approximately 76 L (20.1 US gal) of oil must be added to the service and parking brakes.

Note: After the installation of the rear final drive, brake and wheel, refer to Disassembly and Assembly for the procedure to remove air from the brakes.

End By:

  1. Install the rear axles. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Axle Shaft - Install".

  2. Install the rear tires and rims. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tire and Rim (Rear) - Install".

  3. Perform a baseline measurement on the service brakes. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Service Brake Discs - Check" Record baseline measurement in "Worksheets" to be kept with the wheel group.
