Assembly Procedure

1. Install lip seal (7) and spacer (5).

   Note: Lip seal (7) is made of Viton. Do not substitute any other seal.

2. Install bearing (3) and spacer (4) on the shaft.

   Note: Bearing (3) is pressed on the shaft.

3. Use Tool (A) to install retaining ring (6).

4. Install shaft assembly (12).

5. Install retaining ring (2).

6. Install thrust plate (9).

7. Install O-ring seal (8).

8. Install housing assembly (16).

9. Install idler gear (11) and drive gear (10).

   Note: Drive gear (10) has an internal spline which accepts the external spline on shaft (12).

10. Install thrust plate (9) and O-ring seal (8).

11. Install housing assembly (17).

    Note: Two bearings (13) and ring seal (14) are not serviced. Ring seal (14) is only installed in the bore of the drive gear.

12. Install four washers and four bolts (18).

    Note: During the installation of bolts (18), tighten the bolts to a torque of 160 ± 30 N·m (118.01 ± 22.13 lb ft).

13. Install key (1).

End By:

1. Install the gear pump (rear axle lube). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Gear Pump (Rear Axle Lube) - Remove and Install".
