Required Tools
Tools     Part Number     Part Description     Qty
A     5P-7279     Adjustable Hook     1
5P-7284 Plate     1
2H-3745 Bolt     4
5P-8622 Shackle     1
FT-1977 Adapter     1
B     FT-1897     Adapter     1

Note: This method for removal of the transmission is the least recommended procedure to follow because of the following reasons:

  • More extensive Tooling is required.

  • During removal, more effort is required in order to counterbalance the weight of the transmission.

  • The bevel and the transfer gears cannot be removed once the transmission is removed.

  • During assembly, it is difficult to align the splines between the transmission and the transfer gears.

This procedure does not require the axle shafts to be removed. The disadvantages that are listed above should be considered before you proceed.

  1. Remove the plug in the bottom of the transmission and bevel gear case. Drain the oil from the power train. Loosen the bolts that hold the cover for the oil suction screen, and drain the oil from the transmission case. Approximately 159 L (42 US gal) of oil will be drained. Install the plug. Tighten the bolts that hold the cover for the oil suction screen.

  1. Remove the yoke. Use forcing bolts, and remove retainer (1) and the O-ring seal from the transmission and bevel gear case.

  1. Remove the four bolts at the center of the cover. Remove the 17 bolts and the cover. Remove the gasket from the cover.

  1. Remove the round adapter and turn sleeves (2) from the control assembly.

  1. Remove four bolts (3), and disconnect cables (4) and (5) from the control assembly. Pull the cables out of the way.

  1. Attach the FT-1977 Adapter to the 5P-7279 Adjustable Hook. Both of these tools are part of Tooling (A) .

  1. Place a piece of plywood or of similar material in position over the rear glass of the cab for protection.

  1. Adjust the top bracket so that distance (X) is 25.4 cm (10 inch). Adjust the lower bracket toward the Tooling as far as possible.

  1. Use a hoist, and attach Tooling (A) to the transmission cover.

  1. Remove the small round cover. Install Tooling (B) on the transmission cover.

  1. Remove four bolts (7) and 22 bolts (6) from the transmission cover. The axle shafts will prevent the bevel gear case from moving out of the tractor frame.

  1. The weight of the transmission is 375 kg (826 lb). Place a long bar in Tooling (B) and remove the transmission from the tractor.
