Wheel Drive - Lubricate

NOTICE

This procedure must be completed before operating the all wheel drive system. Failure to do so may result in damage to the wheel drives due to lack of lubrication.

  • Rotate the wheel until purge port (1) is positioned at the top.

      Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

      Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

      Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

    1. Remove plug (2) from purge port (1) .

    1. Ensure that the parking brake is engaged. Ensure that the all wheel drive control is in the OFF position. Start the machine. Set the machine in low idle in the PARK position.

    1. When hydraulic oil begins to flow out of purge port (1) , install plug (2) . Turn off the machine.

    1. Check the oil level in the hydraulic oil tank. Add oil to the hydraulic tank if the level is low.

    1. Repeat the procedure for the other wheel drive.
