Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Raise the machine and place suitable cribbing and/or jack stands under the machine. Lower the machine onto the cribbing and/or the jack stands.

- The two oil filters are located under the power train oil pumps on the pump drive. There is one filter for each pump. Access the pump drive by lowering the bottom guard.

- Use a strap type wrench in order to remove the oil filters.
- Clean the filter mounting base with a clean cloth.
- Apply a thin film of hydraulic oil onto the gasket of each new filter element.

- Install the new filter elements hand tight. When the gasket contacts the filter base, tighten the filter by an additional 3/4 turn.
- Start the engine and allow the hydraulic oil to warm. Check for leaks. Check the oil level in the hydraulic tank.

- Raise the bottom guard.
