Engine Air Filter Secondary Element - Replace

Always replace the secondary element. Do not attempt to reuse it by cleaning. Engine damage could result. |
Note: Replace the engine air filter secondary element when you service the engine air filter primary element for the third time. Replace the secondary filter element if the exhaust smoke remains black and a clean primary filter element has been installed. Also, replace the secondary filter element whenever the secondary filter element appears dirty or the secondary filter element appears dusty.

- Slowly release latches for the air cleaner housing. Remove cover (1) .
Note: The latches for the air cleaner housing may snap open when you release the latches.
- Remove primary filter element (2) from the air cleaner housing. In order to remove the primary filter element, pull the primary filter element outward. While you pull the primary filter element outward, rock the primary filter element.

- Remove the secondary element .

- Cover the air inlet opening. Clean the inside of the air cleaner housing.
- Inspect the gasket between the air inlet and the housing. If the gasket is damaged, replace the gasket.
- Uncover the air inlet opening. Install a new secondary filter element. Apply firm pressure to the end of the secondary filter element as you gently rock the secondary filter element. This seats the secondary filter element.
- Install the primary filter element. Apply firm pressure to the end of the primary filter element as you gently rock the primary filter element. This seats the primary filter element.
- Clean the cover for the air cleaner housing. Align the slot on the cover with the pin on the air cleaner housing. Install the cover.
- Reset the air cleaner service indicator.
