572R Pipelayer Caterpillar

Arctic Lubricants

Usage:

572R 2HZ
When you start an engine in ambient temperatures that are below -20°C (-4°F) or you operate a machine in ambient temperatures that are below -20°C (-4°F), use base oils that are capable of flowing in low temperatures. Because synthetic base oils have a low pour point, synthetic base oils are required to blend oils that are capable of flowing in low temperatures.

In the following systems, use oils that have a rating of API CE/TO 2 or a rating of API CD/TO 2 :

  • engines

  • power shift transmissions

  • hydrostatic transmissions

  • hydraulic systems

  • differentials

  • final drives

Some differentials and some final drives may require a gear oil with one of the following ratings:

  • API CE/TO 2

  • MIL -L-2105C

If gear oil with one of the above ratings is required, use an EP multipurpose gear lubricant.

See the Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU5898, "Cold Weather Recommendations" for additional information.

NOTICE

Use of these lubricants is for extremely cold ambient temperatures only.

When operating ambient temperatures approach 0°C (+32°F), the transmission, differential and final drive compartments should be drained. The oil should be changed to the indicated viscosity in the chart, or reduced gear and bearing life will result.

See the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" .
