------ WARNING! ------

Follow the recommended procedure for removal and installation of tires and or wheel assemblies.

Ensure that the machine and tire and or wheel assembly are properly supported at all times.

Improper procedures that are used to remove and install tires and or wheel assemblies can result in personal injury or death.

------ WARNING! ------

Servicing and changing tires and rims can be dangerous. This work must be done only by trained personnel with correct tools and procedures. If correct procedures are not followed while servicing tires and rims, the assemblies can burst with explosive force and cause serious physical injury or death. Follow carefully the specification information provided by your tire servicing person or dealer.

Note: The following procedure shows the front tire and rim on the right side.

Note: Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct tire handling recommendations and tire inflation procedures.

    Typical Example

  1. Place Tooling (A) under the front chassis. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Jacking Locations" for the correct locations. Use Tooling (A) to lift the front chassis until the weight of the truck is off the front tires and rims. Refer to Tool Operating Manual, NEHS1328, "Lift Group (Stand - 60 Ton)" for more information on Tooling (A).

  2. Use Tooling (C) to keep the front suspension cylinder from extending. Refer to Tool Operating Manual, NEHS1303, "Lift Group (Stand - 25 Ton)" for more information on Tooling (C).

  3. Use Tooling (B) to remove 68 nuts (1) and the 68 washers. Leave two nuts attached. The two nuts should be separated by 180 degrees. This will keep the tire and the rim on the machine until the tire handler is positioned to support the tire and rim.

  4. Use a tire handler to support the tire and rim. The tire and the rim weigh approximately 5,159 kg (11,373 lb).

  5. Remove remaining two nuts (1) and the two washers that hold the tire and rim. Remove the tire and rim.

  6. Repeat Steps 1 through 5 for the front tire and rim on the opposite side.
