Operation of PTO in Agricultural Applications
The power take-off (PTO) is designed to take full engine power whenever the PTO is engaged. During continuous operation in a stationary application under full engine power, external cooling of the PTO may be needed. Use the proper procedure when you engage the PTO in order to obtain the maximum life from the clutch pack.
- Avoid frequent engagement and frequent disengagement of the PTO clutch.
- When you start the PTO under high inertial loads, engage the clutch at a low engine speed. After the clutch is engaged, increase the engine speed to the rated speed.
- When possible, do not start the PTO under load.
