Dust Enters the Cab

Table 1
Dust Enters the Cab.
Cause     Solution
There is a poor seal on the cab air filter element.     Check the condition of the seal.
The cab air filter is plugged.     Clean the cab air filter or replace the cab air filter.
The cab air filter is damaged.     Replace the cab air filter.
Air is leaking into the cab.     Seal air leaks.
The fan speed is frequently in the OFF position.     Run the fan at least on the low setting in order to maintain cab pressurization.

The Air Flow From the Fan is Low

Table 2
The Air Flow From the Fan Is Low.
Cause     Solution
The cab air filter is plugged or the recirculation filter is plugged.     Clean the filters or replace the filters.
The heater core is plugged or the evaporator core is plugged.     Clean the cores.
The louvers are closed.     Open the louvers or redirect the louvers.

The Air Conditioner Does Not Cool

Table 3
The Air Conditioner Does Not Cool.
Cause     Solution
The air flow through the air conditioner condenser is restricted.     Clean the radiator screen, the radiator, the oil cooler, and the air conditioner condenser.
The refrigerant is low.     Consult any Caterpillar dealer. (1)
The air conditioner belt is slipping.     Check the belt tension. If the belt tension is low, adjust the belt tension.
The heater control is turned on.     Turn the temperature control counterclockwise for maximum cooling.
The water valve is not shut off or the water valve is defective.     Turn the temperature control all the way in the counterclockwise direction. Run the machine for a few minutes. Check the outlet line of the heater hose. If the line is warm, the water valve may be defective.
Shut off the petcocks at the engine. If the cooling improves, the water valve should be replaced.
The heat load from the sunlight is excessive.     Retractable sun screens are available from any Caterpillar dealer.
The orifice valve is defective or the orifice valve is missing.     Consult any Caterpillar dealer. (1)
