Proper truck body pad installation will effectively balance load weight and reduce the risk of possible chassis damage. Each truck body pad should be inspected and compared against other truck body pads on the machine. If inspection indicates uneven body pad wear or frame rails indicate uneven paint wear it is recommended to re-adjust the truck body load distribution.
Procedure For Installation Of Body Pads
NOTE: Install the body pads and shims with the truck level and the body assembled to the frame. Hoist cylinders should be positioned as indicated in an applicable service manual.
1. Mark the pad locations on the frame rail using the center mounting block on the body as a guide.
2. Raise the body and install body retaining pins. Stack one pad and one shim at each frame rail body pad mounting location.
3. Remove body retaining pins. Slowly lower the body until it makes minimum contact with the pads. Place as many shims as will fit between the pad and the body. Shim increments should be 2.0 mm (.08 in) and no gaps should be visible between the body pads and mating surfaces.
4. Raise the body approximately 203.2 mm (8.00 in) to 304.8 mm (12.00 in). Insert wooden blocks or other suitable blocking material between the body and the truck rails. Bolt pads and shim packs to the body. Remove blocking material and lower the body to the frame.
5. At the front of the body on the beam assembly place a body pad on each shoe assembly (rocker). Lower the body snug against the pads. Place as many shims as will fit between the pad and the body. Remove the pad and shim stacks. Add one additional shim to each stack.
6. Raise the body and install body retaining pins. Bolt the pads and shim stacks to the shoe assemblies (rockers). Remove body retaining pins and lower the body. No gaps should be visible between the body pads and mating surfaces.
NOTE: It is recommended to visually check each truck body pad for uneven wear and for visible surface mating gaps at each scheduled maintenance interval, beginning at the first 250 hours.
Effective with 771D (6JR) and 775D (6KR) Quarry Trucks; 769D (5TR), 773D (7ER), 777D (3PR) and 777D (2YW) Off-Highway Trucks. Adaptable to 771C (3BJ), 775B (7XJ) Quarry Trucks; 769C (01X), 773B (63W) and 777C (4XJ) Off-Highway Trucks.
