Description of Change: New rear suspension cylinders are now used on articulated trucks. These new cylinders prevent leaks and dirt ingress.

Adaptable To: The new 133-1584 Cylinder Group replaces the former 2U-8060 Rear Suspension Cylinder. The new suspension cylinders are effective with D350E (9LR353), and D400E (2YR589) Articulated Trucks. The new suspension cylinders are adaptable to D350D (9RF462-Up), D400D (8TF683-Up), D350E (9LR1-352), and D400E (2YR1-588) Articulated Trucks. Use the following chart, illustrations, and procedure to adapt the new suspension cylinders to earlier machines.

NOTE: When adapting a truck, all four rear suspension cylinders must be changed at the same time.

1. Use the procedures in the referenced service manuals to remove all four of the former rear suspension cylinders from the truck.

------ WARNING! ------

The suspension system may drop the machine suddenly, leaving no clearance between the axle housing, main frame, tires and mud guards. Working in these areas can result in personal injury or death by crushing. Stay clear until the engine is stopped and the suspension is lowered to the service position.

-------WARNING!-------

Center Axle

2. Remove the two bolts, shown in Illustration 1, from the center axle to "A" frame.

3. Use the 140-0984 Counter Sink Tool and a suitable drill to countersink the hole in the A-frame from which the bolts were removed in Step 2 (See Illustration 2). Countersink the holes to the dimensions shown in Illustration 3.

NOTE: The countersink should be in the A-frame and not the axle housing. A minimum contact area of 70% is required between the countersink in the A-frame and the flat head screw.

4. Install special flat head screws (3) using washers (2) and nuts (1). Tighten nuts to a torque of 900 ± 100 N·m (660 ± 75 lb ft).

Rear Axle

5. On the mounting area between the rear A-frame and the rear axle housing (as shown in Illustration 4), remove material from the area marked using a suitable grinding tool. Grind to the dimensions shown on Illustration 5. This is to provide clearance for the rear suspension cylinder end cap when the suspension is in the lower position. Both sides of the rear axle to A-frame must be modified in this manner.

Center and Rear Axles

6. Install the new 133-1584 Cylinder Groups and connect hydraulic lines.

NOTE: See referenced service manuals.

7. Adjust rear suspension ride height to 175 to 190 mm (6.9 to 7.5 in) of exposed chrome. Use the appropriate operation & maintenance manual for each model for setting the suspension systems.
