This article supersedes the article "Hitch Drive Shaft Bearings Need To Be Greased During Assembly" in the December 6, 1993 Service Magazine and June 1, 1994 Special Edition Service Magazine.

The articulated trucks do not have an oil filled compartment to lubricate the drive shaft bearings or seals that go through the hitch. Anytime the drive shaft that goes through the hitch is removed for repair, use the following methods to grease the bearings and seals. Make a note of the following procedures in the appropriate Service Manuals.

D20D, D25D, D30D Articulated Trucks

Illustration 1. Seal And Cavity Location (1) Seals. (2) Cavities.

The ball bearings used in these machines are sealed for life and do not require packing. To provide lubrication for the seals (1), pack the cavities (2) 1/3full of 5P-0960 Grease.
