Usage:
Bearing Adjustment
Step 1. Install shaft (6) with no shims (8) and tighten bolts (7) evenly to a torque of ... 5 ± 1 lb. ft.(7 ± 1 N·m)
Step 2. Measure the distance between shaft (6) and the pump drive housing (2) in three places approximately 120° apart. Make an average of the three measurements.
Step 3. The correct thickness of shims (8) to use is .004 in. (0.10 mm) less than the average of the three measurements in Step 2.
Step 4. Remove shaft (6). Install shaft (6) with the correct thickness shims (8) and tighten bolts to a torque of ... 32 ± 5 lb. ft.(43 ± 7 N·m)
Step 5. Install cage (3) with no shims (5). Turn gear (1) as bolts (4) are tightened evenly until the force to turn gear (1) increases.
Step 6. Measure the distance between cage (3) and the housing in three places approximately 120° apart. Make an average of the three measurements.
Step 7. The correct thickness of shims (5) to use is the average of the three measurements plus .004 in. (0.10 mm).
Step 8. Remove cage (3). Install cage (3) with the correct thickness shims (5) and tighten bolts (4) to a torque of ... 32 ± 5 lb. ft.(43 ± 7 N·m)
Step 9. Measure the end play of gear (1). The correct end play is ... .002 to .006 in.(0.05 to 0.15 mm)
If the end play measurement is not correct it is necessary to either add or remove shims from shims (5).
Step 10. Install cage (10) with no shims (12). Turn gear (9) as bolts (11) are tightened evenly until the force to turn gear (9) increases. Use the same procedure to get the correct thickness for shims (12), cage (10) installation, and end play for gear (9) as in Steps 6, 7, 8, 9 for shims (5), cage (2) installation and gear (1) end play.
