Usage:
Effective July 1, 1992 regulations prohibit the venting of any refrigerant into the atmosphere. Refer to Caterpillar publication SENR3334-01, SENR5664 and NEDG5065-01 for the proper procedure, equipment and tools to reclaim refrigerant from any Caterpillar machine. |
Always wear goggles when working on air conditioning systems. The system is under pressure at all times, engine running or not. Escaping refrigerant R-12 (C C12 F2 Dichloro Difluoro Methane) and refrigerant R-134A can cause freezing of human flesh. Do not smoke while working on air conditioning. Inhaling Refrigerant R-12 or R-134A through any smoking material, although not toxic or flammable, can cause violent illness. Also heat must never be applied to a charged system. See Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual Form No. SENR3334-01 and SENR5664, for more information on removal and installation of lines and refrigerant from the system. |
1. Using the proper recycling equipment, remove the refrigerant from the system. See Air Conditioning And Heating, Purging the system form No. SENR3334-01
2. Disconnect hose assemblies (1) from the air conditioning compressor.
3. Disconnect wires (2) from the compressor clutch.
4. Remove clip (3) that holds the wire to the compressor. Pull wires (2) clear of the compressor.
5. Loosen the bolts that hold the air conditioning compressor to the bracket.
6. Loosen nut (5) on the adjustment rod until vee belt (4) can be removed from the compressor pulley.
7. Remove nut (6) from the adjustment rod.
8. Remove three bolts (8) that hold the compressor to the bracket. Remove air conditioning compressor (7).
Install Air Conditioning Compressor
1. Put air conditioning compressor (1) in position on the bracket. Install the bolts that hold it.
2. Install vee belt (3) on the compressor pulley. Use one of the following procedures to make an adjustment to the vee belt tension.
a. Use a Borroughs Gauge BT-33-72C to check the belt tension Tighten nut (2) on the adjustment rod until the indication on the Borroughs Gauge is 120 ± 5 for a new belt or 90 ± 10 for a used belt.
NOTE: A used belt is one which has more than 30 minutes of engine use at high idle.
b. Tighten nut (2 on the adjustment rod until the vee belt has a movement (deflection) of 14 to 20mm (.562 to .812 in) under a 25 lb. (110 N) force half way between the centers of the pulleys.
3. Tighten nut (4) to a torque of 149 ± 20N·m (110 ± 15 lb ft). Tighten the 1/2 " - 13 NCbolts that hold the compressor to a torque of 100 ± 15N·m (75 ± 10 lb ft).
4. Connect wires (5) to the compressor clutch.
5. Install clip (6) on the compressor.
6. Connect hose assemblies (7) to the compressor.
7. See Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual, SENR3334-01 for charging the system.
