Usage:
Start By:
a. disassemble final drive and hub assembly (front axle)
1. Put swivel joint (1) out far enough to obtain access to retainer ring (2).
2. Remove retainer ring (2). Remove spacer (3) and washer (5) from the swivel joint.
3. If necessary, remove wear ring (4). Remove cotter pin (6) from the tie rod nut.
4. Loosen nut (7); then strike it carefully with a hammer to remove the ball joint end of the tie rod from the steering knuckle.
5. Remove bolts (8) [upper and lower] that hold the kingpins to the steering knuckle.
NOTE: The upper kingpin is the only kingpin with the shim. Keep this set together.
6. Remove kingpins (9), shim (11) and O-rings (10). Slide steering knuckle (12) from the swivel joint. The lower bearing will fall when the steering knuckle is removed.
7. Remove sealing caps (13) and tapered roller bearings (14).
8. Remove seal (15) and bearing (16) from the steering knuckle.
9. Remove swivel joint (17) from the axle housing.
10. Expand retainer ring (18). Tap the swivel joint with a soft hammer to remove it from the main shaft.
11. Expand retainer ring (19). Remove sun gear (20) from the swivel joint.
12. Remove bearing cups (21) from the axle housing arm. Remove plug (22) if necessary.
13. Remove seal (24) and bearing (23) from the axle housing arm.
Assemble Steering Knuckle And Swivel Joint (Front Axle)
1. Install bearing (2) and seal (1) in the axle housing arm. Install the seal with the lip toward the bearing.
2. Expand retainer ring (3). Install sun gear (4) on the swivel joint.
3. Expand retainer ring (5). Install the swivel joint assembly on the main shaft.
4. Put clean lubricant on the seal and bearing in the axle housing arm. Install the swivel joint assembly.
5. Install bearing (6) and seal (7) in the steering knuckle. Install the seal with the lip toward the bearing.
6. Install a new plug in the axle housing arm if necessary. Lower the temperature of bearing cups (9), and install them in the axle housing arm.
7. Install bearing (10) and sealing cap (8). The lower bearing and sealing cap will have to be held in place while the steering knuckle is being installed.
NOTE: Use 2S3230 Bearing Lubricant on the bearings.
8. Put steering knuckle (13) in position on the axle housing arm. Install the bottom kingpin assembly.
9. Install O-ring seals (12) and top kingpin (11). Tighten the bolts until a torque of 10 to 12 N·m (90 to 108 lb in) is needed to move the steering knuckle back and forth.
10. Measure the gap between the top kingpin and steering knuckle. Remove the top kingpin, and add shims (14) equal to the measurement.
11. Put the tie rod ball joint in position on the steering knuckle. Install nut (15). Tighten the nut to a torque of 300 N·m (200 lb ft). Install the cotter pin in the nut.
12. Install a new wear ring (16) if necessary.
13. Install washer (19), spacer (17) and retainer ring (18) on the sun gear.
14. Push the sun gear in all the way. Install retainer ring (18) completely in the groove in the sun gear.
End By:
a. assemble final drive carrier and hub assembly
