Lockup Clutch Valve

Usage:

Remove And Install Lockup Clutch Valve

START BY:

a. install body retaining pins

1. Disconnect wire harness connector (1) from lockup clutch valve (2). Remove the bolt that holds the wire harness and clip (3) to the lockup clutch valve, and move the wire harness away from the lockup clutch valve.

2. Disconnect hose assembly (5) from the lockup clutch valve.

3. Remove three bolts (4) and lockup clutch valve (2) from the torque converter.

4. Remove the O-ring seal from the lockup clutch valve.

NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the lockup clutch valve.

5. Put the O-ring seals in position in the lockup clutch valve. Put lockup clutch valve (2) in position on the torque converter, and install three bolts (4).

6. Connect hose assembly (5) to the lockup clutch valve.

7. Connect wire harness connector (1) to lockup clutch valve (2).

8. Put the wire harness and clip (3) in position on the lockup clutch valve, and install the bolt that holds it in place.

Disassemble Lockup Clutch Valve

START BY:

a. remove lockup clutch valve

1. Remove cover (1) from the valve body assembly. Remove the O-ring seal from the cover.

2. Remove body (2) from the valve body assembly.

3. Remove springs (6) and (9) from body (2). Remove pistons (3) and (4) from body (2). Remove shims (5) from piston (4). Remove orifice (8) and O-ring seal (7) from body (2).

4. Remove plug (10) from the valve body. Remove the O-ring seal from the plug.

5. Remove spring (14) and spool (12) from the valve body. Remove slug (13) from spool (12).

6. Remove stop (11) from the valve body.

7. Use tool (A), and remove the snap ring from spool (12).

8. Remove retainer (17), spring (16) and ball (15) from spool (12).

9. Remove cover (18). Remove the O-ring seal from the cover.

10. Remove two springs (19) and spool (21) from the valve body. Remove slug (20) from spool (21).

11. Use tool (A), and remove the snap ring from spool (21).

12. Remove retainer (24), spring (23) and ball (22) from spool (21).

13. Remove solenoid (25) and tube (26) from the valve body. Remove the tube from the solenoid.

14. Remove plug (27) from the valve body. Remove the O-ring seal from the plug.

15. Remove valve assembly (28) from the valve body.

16. Remove pin (29) and the ball from valve assembly (28).

Assemble Lockup Clutch Valve

NOTE: Clean all parts thoroughly, and put a thin coat of clean oil on them before assembly.

1. Put the ball in position in valve assembly (2), and install pin (1) to hold it.

2. Put O-ring seal (3) in position on plug (4) as shown. Put valve assembly (2) in position in the valve body with the large hole inward. Install plug (4).

3. Put tube (7) in position on solenoid (5), and tighten the nut that holds it until it is finger tight.

4. Put two O-ring seals (6) in position on solenoid (5) as shown. Put the solenoid and tube in position on the valve body, and install the bolts that hold it.

5. Tighten the nuts that hold tube (7) in position.

6. Put ball (9), spring (10) and retainer (11) in position in spool (8). Install the snap ring that holds them with tool (A).

7. Put slug (12) in position in spool (8). Put spool (8) in position in the valve body.

8. Put springs (13) and (14) in position in the end of spool (8).

9. Put O-ring seal (15) in position in cover (16). Put cover (16) in position on the valve body, and install the bolts that hold it.

10. Put ball (18), spring (19) and retainer (20) in position in spool (17). Install the snap ring that holds them with tool (A).

11. Install stop (21) in the valve body. Make sure it is against the bottom of the counterbore.

12. Put slug (22) in position in spool (17). Put spool (17) in position in the valve body. Put spring (23) in position in the valve body and around spool (17).

13. Put O-ring seal (24) in position on plug (25), and install plug (25).

14. Put shims (29) and spring (30) in position in piston (28). Put piston (28) in position in piston (27). Put piston (27) in position in body (26).

15. Put O-ring (31) in position in body (26). Put orifice (32) and spring (33) in position in body (26).

16. Put body (26) in position on the valve body as shown, and install the screws that hold it.

17. Put O-ring seal (34) in position on cover (35). Put cover (35) in position on the valve body, and install the bolts that hold it.

END BY:

a. install lockup clutch valve
