Transmission And Transfer Gears

Usage:

Remove Transmission And Transfer Gears

START BY:

a. remove drive shaft (front)

b. remove drive shaft (rear)

1. Drain the oil from the transmission.

2. Remove the bolts that hold guard (2) to the electronic speed sensor housing and the transfer gear housing. Remove bolt (1) that holds the wire harness to the transfer gear housing.

3. Move guard (2) away from the electronic speed sensor. Remove the lockwire that holds wire harness connector (3) to sensor (4), and disconnect the wire harness connector.

4. Disconnect hose (5) from the torque converter charging, scavenge and brake reaction pump, and move the hose away from the transmission.

5. Disconnect hose (6) from the lockup clutch valve, and move the hose away from the transmission.

6. Remove elbow (7).

7. Disconnect two oil cooler lines (8) from the transmission.

8. Disconnect the two clips from the transmission.

9. Disconnect hose (9) from the brake valve.

10. Remove the lockwire that holds wire harness connector (10) to the switch manifold, and disconnect the wire harness connector.

11. Remove the four bolts that hold guard assembly (11) to the transmission, and remove the guard assembly.

12. Disconnect hose (12) from the brake valve. Remove the bolt that holds clip (13) and hose (12) to the transmission.

13. Remove the lockwires that hold wire harness connectors (15) to the valve.

14. Put identification marks on wire harness connectors (15) for assembly purposes, and disconnect the wire harness connectors from the valves.

15. Remove the nuts that hold clips (14) and the wire harness to the transmission.

16. Remove bolt (18) that holds the clip and hose (12) to the transmission, and move the hose away from the transmission.

17. Disconnect hose (19) from the transmission.

18. Remove bolt (16) and spacer (17), and move the hoses away from the transmission.

19. Remove the bolt that holds the hose and clip (20) to the transmission.

20. Remove bolts (21) that hold the wire harness and clips to the transmission, and move the wire harness away from the transmission.

21. Disconnect hose (23) from valve (22). Remove the bolts that hold valve (22), and move the valve toward the front of the vehicle.

22. Remove the bolt that holds the wire harness and clip (24) to the transmission. Move the wire harness away from the transmission.

23. Disconnect hose (25) from the transmission.

24. Disconnect two hoses (26) from the filter group.

25. Remove the bolts that hold two clips (27) and wire harness (28), and move the wire harness away from the transmission.

26. Install two 5/8"-11 NC forged eyebolts (30) as shown in the transmission. Fasten a hoist and tool (A) to transmission and transfer gears (29) as shown.

27. Support the weight of the transmission and transfer gear with the hoist, and remove two nuts (33), plate (31) and bolts (32) from each side of the transmission.

28. Remove two bolts (34) and two plates (35) from the pin in the rear mount, and remove the pin.

29. Remove the transmission and transfer gears with the hoist and tool (A). The weight of the transmission and transfer gears is 1089 kg (2400 lb.).

Install Transmission And Transfer Gears

1. Check the bushings in the front and rear transmission mounts. Replace the bushings if they are damaged or worn.

2. Install two 5/8"-11 NC forged eyebolts (1) in the transmission as shown.

3. Fasten a hoist and tool (A) to transmission and transfer gears (2) as shown.

4. Put the transmission and transfer gear in position on the transmission mounts, and install the pin in rear transmission mount (5).

5. Install two plates (4) and bolts (3) that hold the pin in the rear mount.

6. Install two bolts (8), plate (7) and two nuts (6) in the front transmission mount on each side of the transmission.

7. Put wire harness (11) in position, and install two clips (9).

8. Make sure the O-ring seals are in position in hoses (10), and connect the hoses to the filter group.

9. Make sure the O-ring seal is in position in the end of hose (13). Put the hose and clip (12) in position on the transmission, and install the bolts that hold them in place.

10. Put valve (15) in position on the frame, and install bolts (14). Connect hose (16) to the valve.

11. Put wire harness (11) in position on the transmission, and install two clips (17).

12. Put hose (18) in position on the side of the transmission, and install clip (19).

13. Connect hose (24) to the transmission.

14. Put hose (23) and the clip in position on the transmission, and install bolt (22).

15. Put the two hoses and clips in position, and install spacer (20) and bolt (21).

16. Connect hose (23) to the brake valve. Put the hose and clip (26) in position on the transmission, and install the bolts.

17. Put the wire harness and clips (25) in position on the transmission, and install the nuts.

18. Connect two wire harness connectors (27) to the valves, and put lockwire on the connectors and valves.

19. Install guard assembly (28).

20. Connect hose (30) to the brake valve.

21. Connect wire harness connector (29) to the switch manifold, and install a new lockwire on the connector.

22. Make sure the O-ring seals are in position in the ends of cooler lines (31), and connect the cooler lines to the transmission.

23. Put three clips (33) in position on the transmission, and install the bolts.

24. Install elbow (32).

25. Connect hose (34) to the lockup clutch valve.

26. Connect hose (35) to the torque converter charging, scavenge and brake reaction pump.

27. Connect wire harness connector (36) to sensor (37), and install a new lockwire on the connector.

28. Put the wire harness in position on the transmission, and install clip (38).

29. Put guard (39) in position on the transmission and electronic speed sensor, and install the bolts.

30. Fill the transmission with oil to the correct level. See the Maintenance Guide.

END BY:

a. install drive shaft (front)

b. install drive shaft (rear)
