NOTE: The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.
NOTE: This Program can only be administered after a failure occurs. The decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS0906" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. Use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
NOTE: This Revised Service Letter replaces the December 3, 1995 Service Letter. Changes have been made to the Action Required and the Termination Date.

A loss of fuel rate may cause a low power complaint in certain 3406C Truck Engines (425 hp) equipped with a brakesaver.

Action Required
1. Find the original factory rack settings using the valve cover identification plate or Technical Marketing Information (TMI). If the valve cover plate has had previous modifications, use TMI GKN401-06-ESRS (OT's) Specification list.
2. Find the original factory Full Load Setting (FLS) and Full Torque Setting (FTS) Specifications. Add .52 mm to the FLS and .72 mm to the FTS settings. Use these as the new rack settings. (see steps 4 and 5 for documentation)
NOTE: No fuel rate testing is required.
3. Seal the governor and etch or stamp PS0906 (the service letter program number) onto the rear governor housing as shown in the Illustration.

4. Document the rack setting changes in the service letter SIMS entry.
5. Etch or stamp the new rack settings and other engine information on a new 1210170 Engine Information Plate and glue the plate over the original valve cover plate using 3S6252 Silicon Adhesive.
