Product Support Program For Replacing Injector Nozzles To Reduce White Smoke At Start Up On Certain 3406C Truck Engines Caterpillar

NOTE: The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.

NOTE: This Program can only be administered after a failure occurs. The decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS0902" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. Use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

Termination Date

Problem

Some 3406C Engines may have white smoke at start up. The problem is related to 8PN Engines that were built using the 1007567 and 1214353 Nozzles.

Parts Needed

6 - 0R8289 Nozzle Assembly (for 350 hp)

6 - 0R8290 Nozzle Assembly (for 425 hp)

Action Required

1. Remove the 1214353 Nozzles and install the 0R8289 Nozzles on engines with 350 hp.

2. Remove the 1007567 Nozzles and install the 0R8290 Nozzles on engines with 425 hp.
