NOTE: This Program can be administered either before or after a failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS8463" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

Some 3406 truck engines in the field do not have a 1270890 standpipe installed in the water pump weep hole.

Action Required
If a 3406 Truck Engine is in the shop for any repair use this service letter to install a 1270890 Standpipe in the water pump weep hole.
1. Remove the 1085959 Filter from the water pump weep hole and discard.
NOTE: Make sure the filter is removed as this could make the standpipe ineffective.
2. Insert the new 1270890 Standpipe in the weep hole until the standpipe cap contacts the machined surface of the water pump housing.
3. Use a 3/4 inch wrench to hold the cap while turning the 1/4 inch hex socket counterclockwise. Tighten the cap to a torque of 3.5 ± 0.5 N·m (31± 4 lb. in.).
