Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The 8T-4195 Bolts need to checked and torqued on the products listed below. The bolts may not have been properly torqued during assembly. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated May 25, 2005 when scheduling this service.
We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, but urge you to have this service performed as soon as possible to prevent unscheduled downtime.

Rework Procedure
- Refer to the Power Train Disassembly and Assembly Manual for your model. Refer to section "Piston Pump-Hydrostatic ? Remove".
- Remove the pumps that bolt to the engine.
- For Skid Steer Loaders, once the pumps have been removed remove the 12 - 8T-4196 bolts that retain the 142-8719 Adapter Plate. Remove the 142-8719 Adapter Plate. For Multi Terrain Loaders, once the pumps have been removed remove the 12 - 8T-4196 bolts that retain the 228-9227 Adapter Plate. Remove the 228-9227 Adapter Plate.
- Torque the eight 8T-4195 Bolts retaining the 226-7635 Flange to 55Nm +/- 10Nm.
- For Skid Steer Loaders, reinstall the 142-8719 Adapter Plate using the 12 - 8T-4196 Bolts and torque to 55Nm +/- 10Nm. For Multi Terrain Loaders, reinstall the 228-9227 Adapter Plate using the 12 - 8T-4196 Bolts and torque to 55Nm +/- 10Nm.
- Refer to the Power Train Disassembly and Assembly Manual for your machine. Refer to section " Piston Pump - Hydrostatic ? Install" to reinstall the pumps.
- Remove vacuum from hydraulic tank.
- Operate the machine to be sure there are no hydraulic leaks.
NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the
hydraulic tank. Pull a vacuum on the tank to retain the oil. Draining the
oil from the tank is an option. Be sure to cap all hydraulic lines to prevent
contamination.
NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the engine.
NOTE: If hydraulic tank oil was drained,
refill to proper capacity.
