NOTE: This Program can only be administered after a failure occurs. The decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS0715" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. Use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

Problem
The final drives on the front axle of certain D400D Articulated Trucks may not reach their desired service life. Pitting and/or spalling may occur on the gears, bearings, and/or shafts.
NOTE: If either of the final drives fail, both final drives must be reworked.
After failure, replace the existing parts with the new parts listed under Parts Needed. Make sure that the new spacer between existing wheel assembly and new planet carrier is installed.
1. Park the machine on level ground.
2. Drain the oil from the final drives. (Approximately 1.5 US gallons per side.)
3. Remove the existing final drives using the procedure in the Service Manual, to the point of removing the ring gears. Save the 4C1627 Axle Shafts, 8K6464 Sun Gear Retaining Rings, 2V7398 Planet Shaft Retaining Rings, 5P4484 Planet Carrier Drain Plugs with 7M8485 O-Rings, the 5P8247 Washers used to mount the planet carriers, and the 5P8245 Washers used to mount the final drive covers for later use.
4. Install the new ring gears.
5. Install the 8D2714 O-Rings to the spacers and install the spacers in the wheel assemblies.
6. Assemble the new final drive planet carriers using the procedure in the Service Manual.
7. Install the final drives using the procedure in the Service Manual. Use the new bolts to fasten the planet carriers to the wheel assemblies.
8. Install the sun gears and retaining rings on the axle shafts and install the axle shafts.
9. Install the new plates, bolts, and o-rings on the new final drive covers. Install the covers on the planet carriers using the new bolts.
10. Add oil to the correct level.(Approximately 3 US gallons)

NOTE: This is a 5.5-hour job to rework both final drives.
