Obtaining Correct Bolt Torque On Ground Engaging Tools{6800,7553}

Usage:

All Caterpillar Products So Equipped

When installing cutting edges, end bits, tooth adapters on other ground engaging tools, obtaining the correct fastener torque is vital. If the ground engaging tool is not bolted to a flat surface, bolt tension can quickly relax. In order to insure the correct installation of ground engaging tools, the "Procedure To Torque Ground Engaging Tool Fasteners" should be followed.

Procedure To Torque Ground Engaging Tool Fasteners

1. Clean all surfaces, including recesses, of all rust, paint, nicks and burrs.

2. Assemble the component and apply specified torque to fasteners. On components that require more than one fastener, start in the middle and work out to the ends or start at one end and work to the other end.

3. Hit the bolt heads with a large [1 kg (2.2 lbs)] hammer.

NOTICE

Safety glasses must be worn when striking bolt heads.

4. Recheck fastener torque and retighten if necessary.

5. If torque relaxation does occur, repeat Steps 2, 3 and 4.
